VoxelMind goes Open & Local.

AI beings that live in your Minecraft world: a companion who plays next to you, a fairy who builds, and a game master who improvises adventures. The mod is free, the code is open, and you choose how your AI thinks.

Everything the mod remembers stays on your PC.

Three kinds of AI beings

A friend. A fairy. A game master.

Summon the one you want with a command or from the in-game menu. Each one decides for itself what to do.

Someone at your side

Companion

A real player body that walks, mines, fights, crafts and talks. You give it a name, a character and the skin of any Minecraft account.

  • Takes damage, eats, picks up items and dies like a player
  • Hardcore mode per companion: one life, and a fallen companion is gone for good
  • Per companion: this world only, or travel with you into all worlds

A fairy with console power

Builder

A small glowing fairy that follows you. Tell it what you want in chat: it fills regions, builds whole buildings from a description, and can undo what it built.

  • Whole houses, bridges and towers from a few words
  • Fills and clears regions with console-level power
  • Undo, if the result is not what you pictured
Illustration of a mysterious circle of light above a Minecraft valley at night.

A bodiless game master

God

No body, no name tag, just a presence that improvises adventures: commands, rules, creatures and surprises while you play.

  • Chaos level from 1 (calm) to 5 (anything goes)
  • Campaigns: sandbox, trials, a living world or chaos
  • Invents its own rules and creatures as it goes

Also in the box

In-game menu

Press V (or /vml) to summon, edit, monitor and read memories. No config files needed.

Skins from any account

Give your companion the skin of any Minecraft account, for example your own or a friend's.

Local memory

Characters, memories and logs live in your world folder or game folder, not on our servers.

Singleplayer, LAN, servers

Works in your own world, on LAN and on servers that run the mod. Players who join do not need it.

You choose the brain

Four ways to power your AI

The mod does the playing. The thinking comes from the AI you connect. Switch any time in the settings (V, then the settings pill, or /vml setup).

Player2

Free to start

Connect a free Player2 account and get daily AI power at no cost.

Trade-off: Free, but Player2 picks the model and the free daily amount is small: enough for short sessions.

VoxelMind Sparks

Our service

Our own prepaid AI service with a tested standard model. Sign in from the game with your Minecraft account: no password, no email.

Trade-off: Zero setup and a model we tested for the mod. Free Sparks first, then you pay for what you use.

OpenRouter

Bring your account

Sign in to your own OpenRouter account inside the game and pick any model from its list.

Trade-off: Most choice, and you pay OpenRouter directly. Needs some credit on your account.

Local model

Ollama · LM Studio

Run a model on your own PC with Ollama or LM Studio and keep everything offline.

Trade-off: Free and private, but needs a capable computer, and small models can struggle with tool-heavy tasks.

Download

Get the VoxelMind mod

Free and open source. Choose the file that matches your Minecraft version on CurseForge.

Until 8 November: the beta file

Until the hosted service ends on 8 November, the new mod is the beta file “VoxelMind Local … (your Minecraft version)” under Files on CurseForge. In the CurseForge app, choose that file in the mod’s list of versions. Files named “VoxelMind Companion” are the old hosted mod; don’t keep both installed.

Supported versions

Fabric on Minecraft Java Edition. Each row is a Minecraft version (or range) with its own file on CurseForge.

MinecraftLoaderNeeds
1.21FabricFabric API
1.21.1 – 1.21.11FabricFabric API
26.1FabricFabric API
26.1.1FabricFabric API
26.1.2FabricFabric API
26.2FabricFabric API

Before you start

  • Minecraft Java Edition with a matching Fabric profile
  • Fabric API for your Minecraft version
  • An AI to think with: Player2, VoxelMind Sparks, OpenRouter or a local model (picked in game)

Install in five steps

  1. 1

Install Fabric for your Minecraft version, with the Fabric installer or a launcher such as the CurseForge app, Prism or the official launcher profile.

  2. 2

Download Fabric API for the same Minecraft version and put it in the mods folder.

  3. 3

Download the VoxelMind file for your version from CurseForge and put it in the mods folder too.

  4. 4

Start the game and open a world. Press V to open the VoxelMind menu.

  5. 5

Pick your AI under settings (or run /vml setup), then summon a companion with the menu or /vml summon Name.

On a server

Install the same two files on the server. Players who join do not need the mod, but with it they get the menu. Operators set the AI with commands. See the help page for details.

VoxelMind Sparks

Prepaid AI power, one Spark per minute.

Sparks are credits for our AI service at api.voxel-mind.com. One Spark is about one minute of play with the standard model.

  • Welcome Sparks, once per Minecraft account, when you sign in from the game
  • A few free Sparks every day (the daily pool is capped worldwide)
  • Sparks never expire
  • Available for any Minecraft name, also as a gift

Open source

MIT licensed. Read it, fork it, keep it.

The VoxelMind mod is free software under the MIT license. There is no VoxelMind account to create. What your companions remember stays in files on your own computer.

From the blog

VoxelMind Goes Local & Private

On November 8, 2026, my servers go offline. VoxelMind doesn't: it moves into your game as a free, open-source mod for Minecraft 1.21 to 26.2. Here's what changes, why I'm doing it, what we still know about you (very little), and where this is heading: the VoxelMind Platform.

Quick answers

Is VoxelMind really free?

Yes. The mod is free and open source (MIT). Thinking costs compute, so you pick an AI: Player2 and local models can be free, Sparks and OpenRouter are pay-as-you-go.

Do I need an account?

Not for the mod. Depending on the AI you choose you sign in to Player2, OpenRouter, or with your Minecraft account for Sparks. A local model needs no account at all.

Which AI should I pick?

For a short free try, use Player2 (the free daily amount is small). For zero setup with a model we tested, use Sparks. For the widest choice of models, use OpenRouter. For full privacy and no ongoing cost, run a local model if your PC can handle it.

Which Minecraft versions work?

Fabric on Minecraft Java 1.21, 1.21.1 to 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2. Fabric API is required. Java Edition only.

Does it work on servers?

Yes, on servers that run the mod. Players who join do not need to install it. Server operators set the AI with commands, see the help page.

Where is my data?

Memories, characters and settings are stored locally on your PC. Your AI provider receives the prompts it needs to answer. With Sparks we keep a balance and a usage ledger, but no chat content.

Ready to meet your companion?

Install the mod, press V and summon someone.
